Color Fonts
Color font support in the world has increased through the years, and alas, Laidout has not quite kept up with everything! One advancement rides on the back of the release of libcairo 1.18, which now allows automatic support for color OpenType fonts. As Laidout uses cairo, it can now display these color fonts without any work! However, export of these fonts can be problematic, and needs more testing. Image output will be the most reliable here.
Layered color fonts
Before there were OpenType color fonts, people had to hack it with layers of single color fonts rendered on top of each other. Laidout has an old implementation of this layered font approach, which you can watch in the demo below.
