Paths

Cubic bezier path tool with the usual points and handles. Various combinations of Shift and Control keys when clicking will do various actions:

  • As you drag points, you can press shift to toggle between dragging the vertex and the handle
  • Press ‘c’ to toggle whether the path is closed or not, or drag one endpoint to another to close a path
  • Control-click to subdivide a segment
  • Shift click over a segment to remove the segment
  • Shift-Control to add or remove a line width handle
  • ‘a’ will toggle selecting all
  • Shift-‘a’ will toggle selecting all on current subpath
  • Press ‘r’ to reverse direction of the path.
  • Browse numerous other shortcuts by pressing F1 to open the shortcuts viewer

The green arrow on the currently selected point has a few uses. When green, it means points will be added in the same direction as the path. If you click it, it will turn red, indicating points will be added in the reverse direction of the path. If you click and drag the arrow, a little circle menu pops up. If you select the ring, that starts a new subpath that can cut a hole out of a surrounding path. Selecting the wavy line will start a whole new path object.

If you want to fill with a gradient, currently you must make a gradient object, have it be a child of the path, then with the gradient tool make sure it is set to fill parent.

Alas this tool currently does not have undo implemented! I keep meaning to refine it and stabilize features before implementing undo, but instead I pack more things into it. There is probably a psychological condition that describes this phenomenon.
