Text on Path

Text On Path objects let you have text follow along a path, with handles that let you simply adjust placement along the path, or offset from it.

  • Font size is changed just by dragging the triangle sizer on the right
  • Baseline shift is changed by dragging the up/down handle that appears when you put the mouse just below text
  • Baseline type lets you select where the default baseline is. For instance, on the center line, the edge of the stroke, the other stroke edge, or within the stroke of a variable with path.
  • Offset along path is changed by dragging the left/right handle above the text
  • Color is changed in the usual way, by dragging on the viewport’s color box along the bottom of the window.
  • Font is changed by double clicking in the text, and the font selection dialog pops up. I’m a little embarrased by the current state of the font selection dialog, so I’m not showing it here.
  • Obscure trick: if you want accents on your vowels but your input method doesn’t let you, then write, for instance, e', then press control-J (for join), and you end up with é.
  • Like with Caption Text objects, You may also press Control-i to bring up the Character Inserter, to select from any of the characters defined in the font.
